Blackberry Picking
From late August to October, hedgerows all over the UK are bursting with juicy, dark blackberries, ready for the picking.
Why You Should Grab Some Blackberries:
Not only are blackberries delicious, but they’re also packed with health benefits. They’re rich in vitamin C, which helps keep your immune system strong, and loaded with antioxidants that can help fight inflammation. Plus, their high fibre content is great for digestion.
Free Food, Anyone?:
Instead of buying expensive, imported berries from the supermarket, foraging lets you enjoy fresh, seasonal fruit straight from nature. You can freeze any extras to use later in jams, pies, or smoothies—making your blackberry haul last all year.
Foraging Tips:
Blackberries grow wild in parks, on country lanes, and even city hedgerows, making them super accessible. Just grab a container, put on some long sleeves (those thorns can be sneaky), and you’re good to go. It’s a simple way to enjoy fresh, organic berries for free. A reminder: always pick from the top of the bush—not the bottom. The lower berries are more likely to be dirty or “sampled” by passing wildlife.
